Round 3

2025/10/25

The 2025 CHAU-SHI Series – SL LINK Elite Invitational, with a total purse of NT$3 million, concluded today (October 24) at National Golf Country Club in Miaoli. The battle for the title remained fierce until the very last group, the final hole, and the final putt, where Wu Yao-wei edged out the field by one stroke to claim his first professional victory, taking home the NT$500,000 winner’s prize.

A graduate of Hsinfong Golf Club, Wu turned professional only last year. Before this event, he ranked No. 109 on the Taiwan Tour money list and No. 6 on the ThreeBond Advanced Challenge Tour standings. This victory earned him a full playing status on next season’s Taiwan Tour.

Starting the day one stroke behind Lin Yung-lung, Wu continued his effective low-ball strategy against the wind and shot a 70, finishing with a three-round total of 213 (3-under-par) to secure the title. Lu Sun-yi also carded 70, while Hsieh Ting-wei shot 71 and Lin Yung-lung 72. The three players finished one stroke behind, sharing second place at 214 (2-under-par), each receiving NT$160,666 in prize money.

Chang Yu-cheng won the special award of the Nearest-to-the-Pin Prize (Round 3, Hole 8 – Lin Chia Memorial Award) with a shot landing 18 centimeters from the hole, earning NT$20,000.

Lee Chin-chou shot 68, Chen Shou-cheng and Ho Yu-cheng both recorded 70, and Liu Yen-hung had 71. The four players tied for fifth place with 215 (1-under-par) after three rounds.

Among the twenty amateurs, 21-year-old Kuo Chieh-lun posted a 75 today for a total of 228 (+12), claiming the amateur title and finishing tied for 40th overall on the professional leaderboard. Kuo trained previously at National Golf Country Club, won the 2022 Future Star Spring Tournament and the Future Star Match Play Championship, and is currently training at Sunrise Golf Club with plans to turn professional next year.

In today’s third round, the 80 participating players combined for 2 eagles (NT$6,000 donated) and 192 birdies (NT$192,000 donated), contributing a total of NT$198,000 in charity. Over the three rounds, the cumulative total reached NT$531,000. Together with individual and corporate donations amounting to NT$640,000, the combined total became NT$1,171,000. SL LINK Chairman Wang Ching-tung added an additional NT$259,000, bringing the final charity total to NT$1.43 million.

These funds were distributed as follows: NT$500,000 to the Miaoli Future Star Golf Association, NT$300,000 to the Shih-Kuang Social Welfare Institution, NT$230,000 to the Yu-Din Global Cancer Research Foundation, and NT$400,000 to the Hsinchu MacKay Children’s Hospital. In addition, Da An Group Chairman Yang Hsien-kuei made a personal donation of NT$400,000 to the Hsinchu MacKay Children’s Hospital.

Wu Yao-wei began the day one shot behind leader Lin Yung-lung and teed off in the penultimate group. After the front nine, he had two birdies and one bogey, reaching 2-under-par to move ahead of Lin, who struggled with putting and made four bogeys. Wu led local favorite Hsieh Ting-wei and Yeh Yu-chen by one stroke. On the back nine, several contenders mounted their charge. Playing alongside Wu, Lu Sun-yi made three birdies to tie for the lead at the 17th, but missed a five-foot par putt on the 18th. Wu, meanwhile, sank his four-foot par putt to hold onto a one-shot lead at 3-under-par.

In the final group, Lin Yung-lung refused to give up and made four birdies on the back nine. Together with Hsieh Ting-wei, they stood at 2-under after the 17th hole. Either player could have forced a playoff with a birdie on the 18th. However, both reached the green in regulation — Hsieh missed his 18-foot birdie putt, and Lin missed from nine feet — leaving them tied for second, while Wu held on for a thrilling victory.

The 28-year-old Wu, who studied in Japan for two years and earned JPGA membership last year, has struggled this season on the Taiwan Tour, often missing cuts, and narrowly missing victories on the ThreeBond Advanced Challenge Tour. His confidence had begun to waver as his touch faded.

He admitted that he never imagined winning this event:

“Everyone here is so strong. I just stayed focused on my usual plan — keeping the ball low into the wind from the tee to the short game, avoiding the rough to keep birdie opportunities alive. I never expected this outcome, but I finally earned my first victory!”

He said the birdies on the 9th and 10th holes were crucial today. “My tee shots weren’t great, but my iron and short-game saves were perfect, both landing close for easy birdies. Though my partner Lu put me under pressure, I stayed calm and finished strong. This victory means so much — I was even too emotional to speak during my speech. I want to thank my family, especially my mother, who always told me, ‘You can do it.’ Now I can finally say to her, I did it! This win truly boosted my confidence and helped me grow.”

Wu also expressed his gratitude to Xinfeng Golf Club for his training, to his coaches Lin Chia and Lin Wen-hung, and to Yeangder Group Chairman Emmet Hsu, who has long supported both amateur and professional players by hosting the Yeangder Youth Cup and multiple pro events including the Yeangder TPC Championship.

The men’s professional invitational featured a total purse of NT$3 million, with the winner receiving NT$500,000 and the runner-up NT$250,000, and prize money awarded to the top 60 finishers. All players competed over three rounds with no cut.

The event was titled by Chairman Wong Chau-shi, sponsored by SL LINK Corporation for the second consecutive year, with Da An Group as the main sponsor, organized by The PGA of Taiwan (TPGA), and co-organized by National Golf Country Club.

Since 2022, the tournament’s charity donations have increased annually, reaching NT$2 million in 2022, NT$2.05 million in 2023, and NT$2.4 million in 2024.

The CHAU-SHI Series was initiated by Wong Chau-shi, Honorary Chairman and one of the founders of Mercuries Group. In 2021, as the pandemic caused major reductions in Taiwan Tour events and total prize funds, Chairman Wong personally took the role of title sponsor, funding six events at NT$2 million each (NT$12 million total) to rebuild the domestic golf structure. This year marks the fifth consecutive year under the same model, with each event offering NT$1.5 million. The number of tournaments increased from eight in 2024 to ten in 2025, contributing to the Taiwan Tour’s total of 19 events this season.

The CHAU-SHI Series also includes a special annual money title bonus: the season’s money leader receives NT$250,000, sponsored by HONLIN CONSTRUCTION CO., LTD Chairperson Lin Kuo-er, along with a 2026 Mercuries Taiwan Masters entry.

Da An Group continued its charity tradition for this event, donating NT$1,000 per birdie and NT$3,000 per eagle over the three rounds, matched by corporate and individual donors. The total was distributed among four beneficiaries.

The newly added fourth beneficiary, Shih-Kuang Social Welfare Institution, is a Catholic social service organization dedicated to serving the underprivileged, promoting Christ’s spirit of compassion, and working with government welfare programs. It primarily serves individuals over 18 with severe or multiple intellectual disabilities.

This charity initiative was originally conceived by Da An Group Chairman Yang Hsien-kuei in 2022 to give back to society, with SL LINK Chairman Wang Ching-tung taking over sponsorship last year. The organizers hope to continue expressing their commitment to local communities through this event — using love and action to protect children’s health and those we care about.

The Hsinchu City Government, through a BOT partnership with Hsinchu MacKay Hospital, established the Hsinchu MacKay Children’s Hospital, which officially opened in November 2022. This hospital provides 24-hour pediatric emergency care and professional medical services for over 300,000 children in the Taoyuan–Hsinchu–Miaoli area.

The Yu-Din Global Cancer Research Foundation, founded by SL LINK Chairman Wang Ching-tung, was inspired by his personal experience and aims to assist at least 10,000 families each year, helping them avoid the grief and loss caused by cancer.

The foundation’s mission originated from the concept of family cancer screening, with an estimated cost of NT$15,000 per family. This year’s tournament continues its theme, “Spreading Seeds of Hope with Love,” to inspire more contributions and extend help to those in need, leading them toward healthy and fulfilling lives.

In addition, donations continue to support the Miaoli Future Star Golf Association, which fosters junior golf development and cultivates future professional players in Taiwan.

In this spirit, SL LINK Chairman Wang Ching-tung continues to devote his energy to pursuing advanced medical innovation and contributing to society through persistent effort — ensuring Taiwan’s golf industry grows steadily while helping more people achieve health and happiness.

The highlights of this tournament will be broadcast online at 4:00 p.m. on November 4 and 5, available on TPGA’s Facebook and YouTube, as well as Yahoo Sports, TPGA’s official website, LINE Golfourit, LINE TODAY, and Chilin Sports. In addition, Golf Media Network, Taiwan’s only nationwide golf digital media platform, will simulcast the tournament across 20 golf clubs nationwide.
