The NT$3.5 million 2025 CHAU-SHI Series seventh leg - Qing Lian HDF Open concluded its final round today (9th) at Chang Hwa Golf Course. Trailing by three shots at the start, Wang Wei-hsuan fired seven birdies against one bogey for a 6-under-par 66, finishing with a four-round total of 12-under 276. He staged a dramatic comeback to win by four strokes, successfully defending his title, and claimed the NT$650,000 champion’s check. Wang also earned the NT$10,000 lowest-round prize for the final round, presented by SOCH Furniture | Diandiansleep.

This marks Wang’s third Taiwan Tour victory of the season and his eighth title since turning professional in 2019. His previous win came on July 19 at the CHAU-SHI Series - Dinyue Open.

Wang expressed his delight at capturing another victory, extending his gratitude to the title sponsors, organizers, host club, and all staff, as well as to his sponsors Fubon Financial, Yeangder Group, Dengtian Construction, and the unwavering support of his family and girlfriend. Notably, with Father’s Day falling yesterday, he said: “I want to dedicate this trophy to my father as a Father’s Day gift.” Last year, he also won this event on Father’s Day, presenting the title as a gift to his dad.

He noted that claiming a third title this year further validated his performance and highlighted his progress, particularly in iron play and driving, which complemented his already strong chipping and putting. These improvements, he said, boosted his confidence heading into upcoming events.

Hung Chien-yao carded a 1-over-par 73 for a four-round total of 8-under 280 to take second place and the NT$330,000 prize.

Lu Wei-chih shot 69 to finish third at 6-under 282, his best Taiwan Tour result of the season.

Chen Yi-tung recorded an even-par 72 to place fourth at 284, while Yeh Yu-chen posted a 73 for a total of 285 and fifth place.

Amateur Nguyen Ich-khi fired a 74 for a total of 8-over 296, earning the best amateur honors and finishing tied for 35th overall among professionals. He is a trainee of the National Golf Country Club.

Starting the day three shots behind Hung at 6-under, Wang wasted no time applying pressure with sharp short game and accurate irons, opening with three consecutive birdies to draw level by the third hole. Further birdies at the 5th and 7th moved him to 11-under and two shots ahead. On the back nine, bogeys at the 10th (three-putt) and 12th reduced his lead to one, but he responded with birdies at the 14th and 17th, while Hung bogeyed 17, extending the margin to four strokes. Wang parred the 18th to seal a decisive title defense.

Wang credited his solid short game and iron play for creating numerous birdie chances. He hit eight fairways, reached 15 greens in regulation, and took 28 putts, capitalizing on nearly all birdie opportunities. One key moment came at the 14th hole, where his 18-foot birdie putt pushed his lead back to two. Another came at the par-3 16th, where despite missing the green, he chipped to four feet and holed the par putt to maintain momentum.

Next week, Wang will head to Thailand for back-to-back TrustGolf events, followed by an Asian Tour event in Indonesia, hoping to carry his strong form forward and achieve more success.

The event is personally title-sponsored by Wong Chau-shi, Honorary Chairman of the Mercuries Group, and organized by The PGA of Taiwan (TPGA), with Qing Lian Group & HDF Precision Technology Co., Ltd. as the single-leg title sponsors and Chang Hwa Golf Course as the co-organizer. This is the second consecutive year that Qing Lian Group and HDF Precision Technology Co., Ltd. have title-sponsored the event, which is also the 10th tournament of this year’s Taiwan Tour.

The CHAU-SHI Series was initiated by Wong Chau-shi, one of the founders of Mercuries & Associates, and Honorary Chairman of the Mercuries Group. In 2021, as the pandemic drastically reduced the number of Taiwan Tour events and total prize funds, Wong personally title-sponsored six tournaments at NT$2 million each, totaling NT$12 million, establishing the foundation for the 2021 season. This year marks the fifth consecutive year of the same model, with each event sponsored at NT$1.5 million. The number of tournaments has increased from eight last year to ten this year, totaling NT$15 million in sponsorship, helping the Taiwan Tour reach 20 events this season.

This year’s CHAU-SHI Series features 10 events and a special annual Order of Merit award. The CHAU-SHI Series Money Winner will receive NT$200,000 from HONLIN CONSTRUCTION CO., LTD. Chairman Lin Kuo-erh, with an additional NT$50,000 added last week, for a total of NT$250,000, along with an invitation to the 2026 Taiwan Mercuries Taiwan Masters.

The tournament’s final two rounds will be broadcast in a 60-minute highlight format on August 19 and 20 at 4:00 p.m. The coverage will be available on the TPGA Facebook page, Videoland Sports Channel, and YouTube, with event news also accessible through the TPGA website, LINE Golfourit, LINE Today, and Yahoo Sports.
