The sixth event of the CHAU-SHI Series, the Chasing Dream Open with a total prize purse of NT$3 million, concluded its four-round tournament yesterday (August 1) at The Royal Kuan-Hsi Golf Club, where Chang Wei-lun claimed the championship and the NT$500,000 winner’s prize. Today, an 18-hole pro-am event was held at the same venue, along with a banquet and charity donation activities. The atmosphere on-site was warm and joyful, and this year’s charity donations totaled NT$2.18 million, all of which were donated to six organizations—two more than last year.

Following last year’s tradition, this year’s tournament again incorporated charity into the men’s professional golf event. The effort was led by Chairwoman Lin Kuo-er of Green Forest Development and enthusiastically supported by Chairman Liao Nien-chi of The Royal Kuan-Hsi Golf Club. The charitable spirit echoes Chairwoman Lin’s motto: “Kindness is contagious; good deeds spread.” Since last year, the charitable element has continued to grow within this men’s tournament, and this year, under the theme “Unceasing Kindness and Continuous Public Welfare,” the impact of giving was further amplified.

Today’s event saw 34 professional players paired with over 100 amateur participants in a team scramble format. The team led by professional player Lee Jui-shen, along with three amateur teammates, shot a 13-under 59 to win the pro-am title. Each amateur teammate received a YAMAHA RMX VD hybrid club.

This tournament is title-sponsored by Mr. Wong Chau-shi, Honorary Chairman of the Mercuries Group. The Royal Kuan-Hsi Golf Club is the title host, with Green Forest Development Co., Ltd. as the main sponsor and the TPGA as the organizer. The Royal Kuan-Hsi Golf Club also acts as co-organizer.

The late Chairman of The Royal Kuan-Hsi Golf Club, Mr. Liao Wan-ying, was a long-time supporter of men’s and women’s professional golf in Taiwan. After a 23-year hiatus, the club resumed hosting TPGA events in 2022 and has now served as title host for four consecutive years, continuing its mission to give back to society through the development of golf in Taiwan.

Chairwoman Lin Kuo-er of Green Forest Development is also the main sponsor of this event. Green Forest has served as a key sponsor for four consecutive years. Since last year, Lin has integrated her three years of experience hosting women’s charity tournaments into the Chasing Dream Open. She stated that this marks her sixth consecutive year bringing this charitable platform into professional golf: “Let’s do good together.”

This year’s donations were jointly raised by Chairwoman Lin Kuo-er and Chairman Liao Nien-chi and were distributed to the following six recipients:

  1. Catholic St. Joseph's Center in Hsinchu

  2. Taiwan Alzheimer’s Disease Association

  3. Zhu Zhu Mama Children’s Education Association

  4. Yu Cheng Social Welfare Foundation

  5. Taiwan Heart & Blessing Emotional Education Association

  6. Taipei City Shangle Family Foundation

The Catholic St. Joseph’s Center received NT$300,000, while each of the other five organizations received NT$376,000.

During the awards banquet, Chairwoman Lin said that after many years of engaging in charitable work, she realized that doing good is the true source of lasting happiness. She was delighted to continue collaborating with the Chasing Dream Open for this charitable initiative and noted with satisfaction that the donation amount grows each year. She looks forward to continuing the partnership next year and hopes for ongoing support from all sectors.

Chairman Liao Nien-chi shared that The Royal Kuan-Hsi Golf Club has long been committed to developing both youth and professional men’s and women’s golfers. In recent years, he has witnessed significant growth among Taiwan’s amateur and professional players and hopes that through continued competitive experience, they will rise to the international stage and shine for Taiwan.

He also announced that starting October 1 this year, the club will invest NT$50 million to install an automated golf cart guidance system. This initiative is aimed at addressing the shortage of caddies and will reduce their workload while enabling more flexible and digitalized operations, ultimately providing better service to golfers.

During the awards ceremony, the Shangle Family Foundation also presented a performance. Although their choreographed dance wasn’t professional, their sincere and enthusiastic effort won loud applause from the audience.

The final two rounds of the tournament will be broadcast as 60-minute highlight programs on August 12 and 13 at 4:00 p.m. The broadcasts will be available on TPGA’s Facebook page, Smart Sports channel, and YouTube. Tournament updates will also be accessible via the TPGA website, LINE’s Golfourit and LINE Today platforms, and Yahoo Sports.
