Round 1

Co-sanctioned and organized by Trust Golf (Thailand), the PGA of Taiwan (TPGA), and the Taiwan Ladies Professional Golf Association (TLPGA), the 2025 TRUST GOLF Asian Mixed began its first round today (July 24) at Lake View Resort & Golf Club in Hua Hin, Thailand. Former TPGA Tour money leader Suteepat Prateeptienchai of Thailand, along with compatriot Sirapob Yapala and U.S.-based player Shawn Lu, all carded 7-under-par 65 to share the lead.

Taiwan’s Chan Shih-chang, along with Thailand’s Varanyu Rattanaphiboonkij, Suradit Yongcharoenchai, and Sarut Vongchaisit, each shot 66 to tie for fourth place.

Hsu Yu-cheng, Tawit Polthai of Thailand, and two other Thai players posted 67 to share eighth position.

Suteepat, Varanyu, and Tawit are TPGA Tour players, invited and recommended by TPGA for this event.

Taiwan’s Ho Chin-hung aced the 229-yard par-3 12th hole using a 19-degree fairway wood. He finished with a 70 and tied for 28th place with 11 others. This marks the second ace of his career, the previous one coming at last year’s Taiwan Glass Wu Fong Open.

Suteepat, who became the first foreign player to win the TPGA Tour money title last year, recorded seven birdies with no bogeys today, thanks to precise putting—only 22 putts—and strong iron play, hitting 16 greens in regulation. He took advantage of calm conditions on his opening nine (holes 10-18) to make five birdies. The wind picked up on the back nine, making scoring tougher, but he still managed two birdies. “Tomorrow, I’ll keep trusting my putting touch and aim for another solid round,” he said.

Sirapob made one eagle and five birdies without a bogey, highlighted by an eagle on the second hole and birdies on two par-3s and two par-5s. Shawn Lu, starting from the first hole, carded an eagle, seven birdies, and two bogeys, shooting 35 on the front nine and 30 on the back.

Chan Shih-chang was the best-performing Taiwanese player, posting seven birdies and one bogey, including birdies on three par-5s and two par-3s. “My putting was strong today with 25 putts. My woods and irons were decent. On the front nine, my putting helped me score four birdies, especially on two par-5s. The back nine was windier, so I only managed three birdies,” said Chan. His highlight came at the 226-yard par-3 12th hole, where he hit the green into the wind and sank a 27-foot uphill putt for birdie.

His only disappointment was the par-5 17th hole, where his second shot veered into the trees. Although he saved par, missing a birdie opportunity was frustrating. “I played Q-School for the Asian Tour on this course over 10 years ago. After practicing here on the 23rd, the memories came back, and I felt comfortable out there,” he said.

Varanyu also shot seven birdies and one bogey, including three on par-5 holes. He praised his putting—26 putts in total—despite not being fully satisfied with his driving accuracy on his home course. “My irons and approach shots were decent, hitting 12 greens. I made five birdies on the front nine, but the wind made the back nine harder, where I only picked up two. Tomorrow, I need to improve my tee shots,” he noted.

Suradit Yongcharoenchai, tied with Chan for fourth, shot a bogey-free 66 with six birdies. An Asian Tour veteran, he won the Taiwan Mercuries Taiwan Masters in 2019 and currently ranks fifth on the ADT.

This event marks the first time Trust Golf, TLPGA, and TPGA have jointly sanctioned an international tournament, and the first co-sanctioned overseas event for TPGA and TLPGA, sending their top male and female players to compete abroad. The field features 132 male and female players from nine countries, including professionals from TPGA and TLPGA tours and invitees from Trust Golf, as well as amateurs.

The TRUST GOLF Asian Mixed Series consists of three tournaments. The first leg carries a prize purse of THB 5 million, played over three rounds (54 holes) in stroke-play format. Male and female scores are combined on one leaderboard. The 132-player field includes 40 TPGA male professionals, 40 TLPGA female professionals, 36 male professionals invited by Trust Golf, and 16 amateurs (seven female and nine male). After two rounds, the top 60 players advance to the final round.

The TPGA lineup includes 40 players from Taiwan, Thailand, Japan, the United States, and Italy, while the TLPGA group consists of 40 players from Taiwan, Thailand, Japan, Malaysia, and Singapore. Trust Golf adds 52 players from Thailand, Myanmar, Scotland, and the U.S., creating a truly international field with nine countries represented.

Since male and female professionals are paired together, tee boxes differ by gender with a 12% yardage difference: 7,081 yards for men and 6,204 yards for women. Lake View Resort & Golf Club is situated in Hua Hin, a well-known beach resort area about 3.5 hours south of Bangkok.
