2025 CHAU-SHI Series - Din Yue Open
Round 3
2025/7/18
The CHAU-SHI Series – Din Yue Open, with a total purse of NT$3 million, played its third round today at Taifong Golf Club in Changhua. Under persistently hot and humid conditions, Liu Yong-hua delivered a steady performance with a 1-under-par 71, giving him a three-round total of 210 (-6) and a one-shot lead. Chan Shih-chang and Wang Wei-hsuan each carded 70 and sit tied for second at 211 (-5). Eight players are within four strokes of the leader, setting the stage for a highly competitive final round tomorrow.
Hung Chao-hsin shot 71, Chang Wei-lun posted 72, while Hsieh Ting-wei and Japan’s Yuki Kajimura both signed for 74. The four players share fourth place at 213 (-3), three shots behind.
American Shotaro Ban fired a 70 and Lian Lu-sen recorded a 73; both stand at 214 and tied for eighth.
Huang Yi produced the day’s best round with a brilliant 67, earning the NT$10,000 low-round prize sponsored by SOCH Furniture | Diandiansleep. He sits at 215 after three rounds, tied for 10th place.
Due to the extreme heat over the first two rounds, tournament officials allowed players to use golf carts for the final two rounds (previously restricted to shuttling between holes) to prevent heatstroke and exhaustion.
Tomorrow’s final round will again feature simultaneous starts from the 1st and 10th tees. The first group will tee off at 7:00 a.m., and the last group at 8:25 a.m. The event is expected to conclude around 1:00 p.m., followed by the awards ceremony.
Liu Yong-hua carded three birdies and two bogeys. “Overall, I felt good. My driving was solid, which restored my confidence. Irons were steady, and putting was sharp,” he said, noting he hit only nine fairways, missed five, and found the rough twice, but managed 27 putts.
He lamented three missed birdie chances inside eight feet on the front nine, making only a 7-footer at the 7th. On the back nine, with tricky pin positions and stronger winds, he birdied the final two par-5s with up-and-down precision. His best hole came at the par-4 4th: “I drove into the right slope, leaving 161 yards. Hit a 9-iron hard but missed the green by 16 yards, then got up and down for par.”
“The heat has been brutal. Yesterday I felt dizzy and nearly had heatstroke, but today with a cart, electrolytes, vitamins B and C, and even using an umbrella, I managed,” Liu added. “Tomorrow will still be a test of endurance and execution. I’ll just stick to my routine and not overthink it.”
Wang Wei-hsuan also had three birdies and one bogey. “My driving and irons were solid, hitting 14 greens, but most birdie putts were from 15-18 feet due to the big green slopes,” he explained. He converted birdies on the 7th and 9th from 14 feet, and two-putted for birdie on the par-5 17th after reaching in two. At the par-4 16th, his tee shot found the woods, and his second ended in a bunker. From 25 yards, he saved par with a precise chip and putt—his highlight of the day.
One stroke off the lead, Wang said his game plan is to maintain energy: “It’s been exhausting in this heat. Tomorrow, priority one is hitting fairways, then keep things simple.”
Chan Shih-chang posted five birdies against two bogeys. “Started well, but two straight bogeys were avoidable,” he said. He made three birdies on short putts (4 and 9 feet), then birdied both closing par-5s. His standout save came on the 16th after a drive into the rough and a mis-hit chip: “My second chip stopped 14 feet away, and I holed it for par.” He aims to shoot 67 tomorrow: “My irons have been off all week, but if I sharpen them, I can post a low score.”
Hung Chao-hsin also tallied three birdies and two bogeys, playing steadily across the board. His birdies came on the last two par-5s (17 and 18) and the par-4 9th with a 12-footer. He made four key par saves, including a 15-foot putt at the 3rd after a poor iron shot. “Tomorrow, hitting fairways is key,” he said.
Hsieh Ting-wei struggled with a 74: one birdie on the front nine for 35, then three bogeys on the back nine for 39. “Three straight days of heat drained me. My focus slipped, missed short birdie and par saves, and my drives were wayward late,” he admitted.
Among the two amateurs making the cut, Lai Yu-yang shot 73 for 222 (+6), best among amateurs and tied for 33rd overall; Ko Liang-yu carded 79 for 226, tied for 45th.
