2025 CHAU-SHI Series – Nan Pao Open
Press Release
2025/6/24
The third leg of the 2025 CHAU-SHI Series, the Nan Pao Open with a total purse of NT$3 million, will take place from June 25 to 28 at the Nan Pao Golf Course. The 72-hole, four-round event features 117 players from four countries, including 109 professionals and 8 amateurs. The champion will take home NT$500,000. Liu Yong-hua is aiming to defend his title.
This tournament is fully title-sponsored by Mr. Wong Chau-shi, Honorary Chairman of Mercuries Group. It is organized by the PGA of Taiwan (TPGA), with Nan Pao Golf Course serving as both the title sponsor for this leg and co-organizer.
Since the CHAU-SHI Series launched five years ago, Nan Pao Golf Course has hosted the event under its name for the fourth time (after 2021, 2023, and 2024). It also marks the sixth time Nan Pao has co-organized a professional men's tournament in Taiwan with the TPGA since 2012.
A pre-tournament 18-hole pro-am event was held today (June 24), featuring 27 professionals paired with more than 90 amateur players in a new scramble format. The team of pro Tsai Tsung-yu and three amateurs shot a 10-under 62 to win the event. Each amateur received a PING G440 MAX fairway wood as a prize.
Since its inception, Nan Pao Golf Course has been designed with eco-conscious principles. It is the first certified organic and ecological golf course in Taiwan. In 2011, it co-hosted the International Organic Leisure Industry Forum with MingDao and National Chung Hsing University. In 2012, it earned EU certification, becoming the first 27-hole certified organic ecological golf course in the Asia-Pacific region. Chairman Huang Tian-jan noted the club's ongoing commitment to sustainability and enhancing the image of a low-carbon, eco-friendly golf industry, while providing a richly biodiverse playing environment.
Nan Pao has long supported Taiwan's professional golf scene, having first co-organized the Taiwan PGA Championship with TPGA in 2012 with a NT$4 million purse—one of the four majors in Taiwan at the time.
In 2019, Nan Pao Golf Course hosted a co-sanctioned event with the Philippine Tour, marking the first time a southern Taiwan course held such an event. The tournament was organized by Nan Pao and TPGA, co-sponsored by PGTI (Pilipinas Golf Tournaments Inc.) and ICTSI (International Container Terminal Services, Inc.).
The CHAU-SHI Series began in 2021. Nan Pao was one of the inaugural hosts. After a hiatus in 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the course resumed its title sponsorship in 2023 and 2024, and now again in 2025—marking its third consecutive year.
Now that TPGA events award OWGR points, Nan Pao has played a key role in supporting TPGA’s five-year effort toward global ranking recognition. Chairman Huang Tian-jan stated the club is focused on enhancing professional services and facilities, integrating AI systems and recreational amenities. Nan Pao plans to continue supporting both domestic and international tournaments, aspiring to become a venue for global events in southern Taiwan.
The CHAU-SHI Series was founded by Wong Chau-shi, a co-founder and Honorary Chairman of Mercuries. In 2021, amid a steep decline in TPGA event count and prize funding due to the pandemic, Mr. Wong personally stepped in with NT$12 million in sponsorship to launch six events, each with NT$2 million. That structure laid the foundation for the 2021 TPGA season. The series has now continued for five straight years under the same model, with 10 events this year (up from 8 in 2024), bringing the total TPGA season to 20 tournaments.
The CHAU-SHI Series also includes a special "Order of Merit Champion" prize: the top money winner will receive an additional NT$200,000 sponsored by Lin Kuo-er, Chairperson of Hung Lin Construction. The winner will also earn an invitation to next year’s Mercuries Taiwan Masters.
This year's Nan Pao Open includes 109 professional players from four countries: Taiwan (87), Japan (20), Australia, and Thailand. Eight Taiwanese amateurs will also compete.
Taiwan’s top contenders include defending champion Liu Yong-hua and current TPGA money leader Shen Wei-cheng (winner of the Sanhwa TPGA Championship), as well as Hung Chien-yao (5th), Lu Sun-yi (7th), Chan Shih-chang (8th), and Hsieh Ting-wei (9th). Other prominent players include 2023 champion Tsai Kai-jen, Wang Wei-hsuan, Yeh Yu-chen, and Hsieh Chi-hsien.
After the first two rounds, the top 50 players (and ties) will advance to the weekend rounds. The champion will receive NT$500,000 and the runner-up NT$250,000.
The tournament will be played on Course A and Course B of Nan Pao Golf Course, with a par-72 layout totaling 6,639 yards. Though not long, the green grain is hard to read, and putting—especially short putting—will be the key to victory.
Special prizes include:

The final two rounds will be recorded and edited into two 60-minute highlight programs, to be broadcast at 4:00 PM on July 8 and 9.
