2025/6/3
The 2025 CHAU-SHI SERIES – Mizuno Open, with a total prize purse of NT$3 million, will be held from June 5 to June 8 at Bombax Golf Club in Tainan, featuring a four-round, 72-hole format. A total of 131 players from five countries will compete for the winnership trophy and the top prize of NT$500,000, with the runner-up receiving NT$250,000. Liu Yen-hung and Hung Chien-yao are both seeking a second victory at this event.
In addition to local players, competitors from four other countries and regions—including Italy, Japan, Thailand, and the United States—will participate. Of the 125 professional players, 92 are from Taiwan. Japan has the largest foreign contingent with 24 players, followed by Thailand with five. There are also six Taiwanese amateur players in the field.
Today, the event kicked off with an 18-hole Pro-Am tournament at Bombax Golf Club. Twenty-six professionals teamed up with over seventy amateur participants from various sectors in a New Scramble format. Taiwan’s professional Liu Yong-hua and three amateur players combined to shoot a 14-under 58 to win the Pro-Am. Each amateur teammate received a Mizuno ST-MAX 230 fairway wood as a prize.
Among Taiwan’s leading players, 2022 winner Liu Yen-hung, 2023 winner Hung Chien-yao, and this season’s TPGA winner Chang Wei-lun (also last year’s Mizuno Open runner-up), along with Shen Wei-cheng and Italy’s Gabriele De Barba (last week's Ambassador ADT Open winner), will all be competing. Also in the field are last week’s runner-up Chan Shih-chang, and rising stars Liu Yong-hua and Su Chin-hung, among others. Taiwan’s elite players are nearly all present. Adding to the competitiveness are Thailand’s 2023 TPGA money list leader Suteepat Prateeptienchai and Tawit, who won once last season and ranked 11th overall. He currently sits at No. 3 on this year’s standings, making the competition fierce and exciting.
This is the second event of this year’s CHAU-SHI SERIES and the fourth tournament of the TPGA Tour. After the first two rounds, the top 50 players (including ties) will advance to the final two rounds.
The CHAU-SHI SERIES is title-sponsored by the Honorary Chairman of the Mercuries Group, Mr. Wong Chau-shi, and has been held annually since 2021. The Mizuno Open is title-sponsored by Mizuno Taiwan, organized by The PGA of Taiwan (TPGA), and co-hosted with Bombax Golf Club, which, along with Mizuno Taiwan, has supported the event for five consecutive years as a title sponsor and main co-organizer.
The CHAU-SHI SERIES was initiated by Mr. Wong Chau-shi, one of the founders of the Mercuries Corporation and Honorary Chairman of the Mercuries Group. In 2021, due to the impact of the pandemic, the number of TPGA events and the total prize purse decreased significantly. Mr. Weng personally committed to title sponsorship and supported six tournaments, contributing NT$2 million per event—NT$12 million in total. He laid the foundation for the 2021 TPGA season. Now in its fifth consecutive year, the series continues under the same sponsorship structure and amount. The number of events has increased from eight last year to ten this year. In total, the TPGA Tour will feature 20 events in 2025—four more than in 2024.
The CHAU-SHI SERIES also includes a special bonus for the annual money list leader. The player who tops the CHAU-SHI SERIES prize rankings will receive an additional NT$200,000 provided by Mr. Lin Kuo-er, Chairman of Hunglin Construction, and will earn an invitation to next year’s Mercuries Invitational in Taiwan.
In the first round on June 5, players will be divided into morning and afternoon waves, starting simultaneously from the 1st and 10th holes. The first morning group will tee off at 6:30 a.m., and the afternoon wave will begin at 11:20 a.m.
The Bombax Golf Club’s tournament layout combines the Qingshan and Lushui nines, totaling 7,182 yards over 18 holes. Power hitters have a chance to post low scores (the 2023 winner finished at -26), but the event also demands precision in short-game control around 100 yards, as well as the ability to read green speed, grain, and slope—making for a true challenge.
Special Awards During the Tournament
Hole-in-One Awards
At Holes 2 and 8 on the Qingshan Course, and Holes 11 and 17 (which correspond to Holes 2 and 8 on the Lushui Course), players—both professionals and amateurs—are eligible to win the designated sponsor-provided prizes and a one-year short-term club membership offered by the course. There is no limit on the number of winners.
At Hole 17, Tung Hui Watch Company is offering one Bell & Ross watch valued at NT$168,000. This prize will be awarded to the first professional player to record a hole-in-one during any of the four official rounds.
Unlimited in both number of winners and eligible holes—Da An Group is providing one free night’s stay in the presidential suite at Lishan Guesthouse, with no restrictions on weekdays or holidays.
Course Record Bonus (Qingshan and Lushui Courses): If the course record of 66, held by Chang Che-yu, is broken, the course will award a bonus of NT$20,000.
Lowest Round Awards for Final Two Rounds: SOCH Furniture and Dian Dian Kun are sponsoring awards for the lowest scores on June 7 (Round 3) and June 8 (Round 4). Each round’s lowest score will earn NT$10,000. In the event of a tie, the prize will be split evenly.
The final two rounds of the tournament will be broadcast as recorded highlights, premiering online at 4:00 p.m. on June 17 and June 18. This year’s broadcast platforms include the Facebook page of The PGA of Taiwan, ELTA TV Sports, and YouTube. Related news updates will also be available via the TPGA official website, the LINE platform Golfourit, LINE Today, and Yahoo Sports.
The event is open to the public. Admission is free, but a NT$20 cleaning fee is required at the reception desk. Visitors must complete a form at the starting station to receive a spectator pass. All spectators must walk on the cart paths—riding in golf carts is strictly prohibited, and no shuttle service is provided between holes. For safety reasons, children under the age of six and pets are not allowed on the course. Golf fans are encouraged to seize the opportunity to witness the exciting performances of emerging professional talents from June 5 to 8.
