2025 Ambassador ADT Open
Round 2 Press Release
2025/05/29
The second round of the “2025 Ambassador ADT Open,” which offers a total purse of US$100,000 (approximately NT$3 million), was scheduled to continue today at Hsinfeng Golf and Country Club in Hsinchu. However, due to persistent rainfall and waterlogged conditions, play was suspended four times. The tournament committee ultimately decided to postpone Round 2 to tomorrow, Friday, with the final round rescheduled for Saturday, May 31. The event will now be shortened to three rounds.
Thailand’s Suteepat Prateeptienchai, a two-time Asian Tour winner last year, carded a 10-under 62 in Round 1, setting both the lowest single-round score in tournament history and a new course record at Hsinfeng, and currently holds the solo lead.
Hsinfeng Golf and Country Club has offered a NT$20,000 bonus for breaking the course record, which was previously 63 and set by Lu Liang-huan in 1982.
Local player Liu Yen-hung posted a 64 to take sole possession of second place. Thailand’s Chanat Sakulpolphaisan is in third with a 66.
Taiwan’s Ho Yu-cheng, Huang Yi-tseng, Liu Yung-hua, and Chang Wei-lun each carded a 68, tying for eighth with four other international players.
The tournament champion will receive US$17,500 (approximately NT$525,000). A total of 144 players from 24 countries are competing, including 81 international players, 62 Taiwanese professionals, and one amateur from Taiwan.
Rain persisted from early morning in Hsinchu today. The first group was scheduled to tee off at 6:50 AM, but due to flooding, the first delay was announced at 5:55 AM. At 7:50 AM, the rain had not let up, prompting a second delay. A third suspension was announced at 9:20 AM, and by 11:00 AM, with rainfall continuing and no improvement in water conditions, the tournament committee officially postponed Round 2 to Friday, with the final round to be played Saturday, May 31.
This tournament is the fifth stop on the ADT schedule this year and the only ADT event on the 2025 TPGA Tour. A total of 11 ADT events are being held this year. It marks the eighth time that Yeangder Group has partnered with the TPGA to co-host an ADT event, and the fourth time its affiliate, Ambassador Hotel, has served as title sponsor.
Yeangder Group previously sponsored the Yeangder ADT Open in 2012, the Ambassador ADT in 2015 and 2016, and co-organized the Charming Yeangder ADT Open with Charming Hotels Group for three consecutive years starting in 2015. After a hiatus, the Ambassador ADT resumed last year, making this the eighth time Yeangder Group has supported the event.
Yeangder Group Chairman Hsu Yu-jui has long aspired to support young players in their pursuit of international careers by hosting world-class tournaments in Taiwan. The ADT Tour serves as a vital stage for aspiring Asian Tour players to develop skills and gain valuable experience before advancing to higher levels.
The goal of Yeangder’s title sponsorship is to create more opportunities for Taiwanese golfers looking to succeed on the global stage. With TPGA Tour events now awarding Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) points, hosting more international tournaments helps increase players’ ranking potential and provides essential support for young Taiwanese talent pursuing their dreams.
In previous years, Taiwan hosted up to four ADT events in a single season. Players such as Chan Shih-chang, Hung Chien-yao, Hsieh Chi-hsien, and Lee Chieh-po took advantage of those opportunities to successfully qualify for the Asian Tour. The 2024 ADT season featured 12 events, including three held consecutively in November. This year, the Ambassador ADT Open was moved to May to provide players more flexibility and opportunities to earn points crucial to year-end rankings.
For TPGA professionals—especially younger players—the Ambassador ADT Open offers a rare chance to compete against emerging talent from across Asia, enhancing their experience and elevating their level of play. Additionally, the scheduling of this event allows players currently active on the Asian Tour, such as Chang Wei-lun, Chan Shih-chang, Hung Chien-yao, and Liu Yung-hua, to participate—further increasing the odds of keeping the trophy in Taiwan.
A total of 144 players from 24 countries are participating in this tournament. The participating countries include Argentina, China, the United Kingdom, France, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Morocco, Pakistan, the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Thailand, the United States, Vietnam, and Taiwan.
After tomorrow’s second round, the top 50 players will advance to the final round.
This year’s event is being played across the East and West courses of Hsinfeng Golf and Country Club, with a total course length of 6,618 yards. The course is known for its narrow, tree-lined fairways and windy conditions. With this week falling during Taiwan’s plum rain season, heavier rain, dense rough, and complex green setups and readings are expected to add to the course’s overall challenge.
