Wealthy Family Open

Round 3

August 14, 2026

The 2026 CHAU-SHI Series - Wealthy Family Open continued today at the National Golf Country Club in Miaoli for its third round. Wang Wei-hsuan put on a phenomenal display of eagle-hunting, making a rare three eagles in a single round alongside four birdies and a double bogey to card an 8-under-par 64. With a three-round total of 16-under-par 200, he surged into the sole lead. Hung Chien-yao fired a bogey-free 68 with four birdies to sit just two strokes back at 14-under-par 202, holding second place as Wang seeks back-to-back titles in consecutive weeks.

Japanese player Nobuaki Oda carded a 73 for a three-round total of 203, slipping three strokes off the pace into third place. The top three players will tee off together in the final championship group tomorrow.

Thailand's Jaturon Duangphaichoom carded a 68 and Lu Wei-chih shot a 70, leaving both players tied for fourth place at 204, four strokes behind the leader.

Yu Sung-po posted two eagles, three birdies, and a bogey for a 66, alongside Ding Tze-hyun (69) and Japan's Atsuya Oishi (70). The trio is tied for sixth place at 11-under-par 205, sitting five strokes back and remaining in contention for the title.

Chen Hsuan-yi carded a 70 for a three-round total of 5-under-par 211, standing as the only amateur player to make the cut for the final two rounds and resting in a tie for 27th place.

Serving as the sixth event of this year's CHAU-SHI Series, the tournament features a total prize purse of NT$3 million, with the champion taking home NT$500,000 ahead of tomorrow's final round.

The tournament is title-sponsored individually by Wong Chau-shi, with the Wealthy Family Golf Team serving as the single-tournament title sponsor, the TPGA as the organizer, and the National Golf Country Club as the co-organizer.

Coming off his victory at last week's Qing Lian HDF Open, long-hitter Wang Wei-hsuan showcased exceptional driving power and short iron mastery today. He became the first Taiwanese player in Taiwan Tour history—and only the third player overall—to record three eagles in a single round of professional play.

Malaysia's Shahriffuddin Ariffin previously accomplished the feat during the second round of the Yeangder TPC Championship at Linkou Golf Club on September 22, 2023, while Thailand's Tirawat Kaewsiribandit matched it during the final round of the 2025 Trust Golf Asian Mixed at Lake View Resort and Golf Club on July 26, 2025.

Wang secured his three eagles on the 3rd, 7th, and 13th par-5 holes. On the 564-yard 3rd hole, he reached the green edge in two shots from 20 yards out and holed out directly with a chip shot. On the 555-yard 7th hole, he hit a rescue club over 250 yards for his second shot to land 4 feet from the pin, converting the putt. On the 502-yard 13th hole, his 52-degree wedge approach from 154 yards landed 12 feet from the flag, which he also converted. Although he missed out on an eagle on the par-5 16th after leaving his second shot far from the flag, he successfully two-putted for a birdie.

He added three more birdies, highlighted by a 22-foot long conversion on the 15th, alongside a 6-footer on the 1st and a 12-footer on the 18th.

Wang reflected after the round that his driving was excellent, and because National's par-5s are relatively reachable, he aggressively attacked the pins whenever possible. Supported by the receptive, high-quality greens that allowed approach shots to hold, and aided by a strong grasp of green speeds and slopes over the past three days, his putting performed well. He noted that despite hitting his drive out of bounds on the par-4 6th for a double bogey, bouncing back immediately with his second eagle of the day on the 7th helped reset his momentum. He plans to maintain his rhythm and stamina for tomorrow's final push.

Hung Chien-yao posted four birdies and zero bogeys, collecting three on the front nine and one on the back nine. He noted that the closing six holes felt slightly regrettable as hesitation on putts caused him to miss a few scoring chances—including 9-foot and 6-foot birdie attempts on the par-5 13th and 16th holes, and another 6-footer on the 17th.

However, his overall ball-striking, driving, and approach shots remained solid, complemented by a respectable 28 putts. His highlight of the day came on the par-4 9th hole, where he reached the green in two and converted a challenging 25-foot downhill sweeping putt from right to left for a birdie. Looking ahead to tomorrow's title chase, he remarked that the final group frequently features either Wang or himself, promising an exciting and unpredictable battle to the finish.

Nobuaki Oda struggled with his putter today, needing 32 putts while hitting only half of his fairways. His card featured three birdies against four bogeys, driven by two wayward drives that led to bogeys, a three-putt, and a short-game error. He managed two birdies across the four par-5s and added another on the 4th hole by sticking a 150-yard approach shot with a pitching wedge to tap-in range. Oda expressed excitement about playing alongside power-hitter Wang Wei-hsuan in the final group tomorrow, aiming to enjoy the atmosphere and play his best golf.

The tournament features four rounds and 72 holes of play, with international representation from Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Thailand, the United States, and Taiwan.

The CHAU-SHI Series was initiated by Wong Chau-shi, co-founder of Mercuries & Associates and Honorary Chairman of the Mercuries Group, who stepped forward during the pandemic in 2021 to support the Taiwan Tour and has continued his dedication for six consecutive years with a sponsored prize purse of NT$1.5 million per event.

The course measures 7,059 yards with a par of 72. National Golf Country Club spared no expense in renovating the greens across the property, with nine holes completely refurnished to welcome the tournament. Green-side rough management and the mastery of green contours, speed, and slope serve as the ultimate competitive tests. Notably, the 7th hole features the largest putting green in Taiwan, while the par-3 14th features a championship tee box that can be set back to 290 yards.
