2026 CHAU-SHI Series - GIANT Open Round 2

May 28, 2026

The second event of the 2026 CHAU-SHI Series, the GIANT Open, carrying a total purse of NT$3 million, completed its second round today (May 28) at Hsin Feng Golf Club in Hsinchu. Under scorching temperatures, Tsai Kai-jen once again demonstrated his form by carding a second consecutive 6-under-par 66. With a two-round total of 12-under-par 132, he remained the sole leader.

Su Chin-hung fired a brilliant 64 to reach a two-round total of 136, four shots behind the leader and alone in second place.

Hsieh Chi-hsien returned a 68 and stands third at 7-under-par 137 after two rounds.

Two other players, Hsieh Ting-wei (68 today) and Thailand’s Wawan (69 today), are tied for fourth place at 5-under-par 139.

Hsin Feng Golf Club remained extremely hot today, with temperatures reaching 32°C and a heat index of approximately 40°C. Although the wind was lighter than yesterday, the humid conditions tested the players’ endurance, patience, and concentration throughout the day.

Tsai Kai-jen, who has led alone after both rounds, posted the same scorecard as yesterday with one eagle, six birdies, and two bogeys. He said after the round that although he hit two fewer fairways than yesterday, successfully finding nine fairways, his putting improved significantly, requiring only 25 putts, three fewer than in the opening round. His short game also remained solid.

At his final hole, the par-5 9th, Tsai reached the green in two shots and converted a 9-foot putt for eagle. He also birdied the other three par-5 holes. At the 14th, he reached the green in two and two-putted for birdie, while birdies at the 5th and 18th came through excellent chip-and-putt combinations. At the 11th, he holed out directly from about 10 yards off the green for another birdie.

Tsai said he has recently been focusing on improving consistency, increasing his rate of successful execution, and maintaining a stable mindset over the final two rounds of tournaments, hoping to steadily move toward victory.

Su Chin-hung enjoyed an exceptional day on the greens, needing only 24 putts while recording two eagles. It marked the first time in his professional career that he has made two eagles in a single round.

Starting from the 10th hole, he made his first eagle at the 513-yard par-5 14th. After his drive, he had 155 yards remaining, hit his second shot onto the green, and drained a 36-foot putt. Later, at his final hole, the 514-yard par-5 9th, he reached the green in two from 140 yards out and holed a 27-foot putt for his second eagle.

He also recorded five birdies and one bogey. Birdies at the 8th and 16th came from putts of 18 and 12 feet respectively, while his other three birdies resulted from excellent chipping followed by birdie putts within six feet.

After the round, Su credited his strong putting, noting that the morning greens rolled more smoothly than they did during yesterday afternoon’s round. He also pointed out that although the wind was lighter than yesterday, it still shifted frequently in both direction and strength, making tee shots difficult to control. He hit only six fairways today and said he would need to improve his long game over the weekend.

Hsieh Chi-hsien carded six birdies and two bogeys. Like yesterday, he needed only 25 putts. He explained that while he had one eagle yesterday, he compensated with two additional birdies today. His putting felt particularly comfortable, while his driving, iron play, and chipping also contributed significantly.

He birdied all three par-5 holes. At the 9th, he reached the green in two and two-putted for birdie. At the 14th and 18th, he relied on successful chip-and-putt combinations. His remaining birdies all came from putts inside nine feet.

On the other par-5, the 5th hole, his drive sailed left and he initially thought it was out of bounds. The ball was eventually found in the trees, forcing him to simply punch it out. His third shot traveled over 200 yards, and he then salvaged par with a chip and a short putt, one of his best saves of the day. Both of his bogeys came on par-3 holes due to inaccurate iron shots.

Hsieh Ting-wei started from the 10th hole. During his opening nine holes (10-18), his driving was inconsistent, forcing him to rely on his short game and putting to save pars. He managed only one birdie and one bogey for an outward 37.

After making adjustments to his driving rhythm on the back nine, he improved his fairway-hit percentage and created more scoring opportunities, converting five birdies for a 31. He birdied holes 4 through 6 consecutively. On the difficult par-4 6th, he hit a 3-wood into the fairway and then found the green with his approach before sinking a superb 30-foot birdie putt. He added birdies at the par-3 8th and par-5 9th. His total of 25 putts was also a key factor behind his strong performance.

Following two rounds, the cut was set at 5-over-par 149, with 57 players advancing to the final two rounds. The champion will receive NT$500,000, while the runner-up will earn NT$250,000.

Round 3 will once again begin simultaneously from the 1st and 10th tees. The first group will tee off at 7:00 a.m., while the final group will start at 8:30 a.m.

The tournament features a 72-hole, four-round format running through May 30. A total of 141 players from six countries and regions — Hong Kong, Japan, the Philippines, Thailand, the United States, and Chinese Taipei — are competing, including 128 professionals and 13 amateurs. The field consists of 91 Taiwanese professionals and 37 international players, with Japan contributing the largest overseas contingent at 31 players.
