2026 TAIWAN GLASS TAIFONG OPEN Press Release

May 6, 2026

The 2026 Taiwan Glass Taifong Open is scheduled to be held from May 7 to 10 at the Taifong Golf Club in Changhua. The tournament consists of four rounds and 72 holes, with total prize money increased from last year's US$400,000 to US$500,000 (approx. NT$15.5 million). The champion will receive US$90,000 (approx. NT$2.79 million). This year, a total of 144 players from 27 countries are participating, setting a new record for the tournament.

Taifong Golf Club hosted Asian Development Tour (ADT) events for nine years from 2014 to 2022 and was upgraded to an Asian Tour venue in 2023. This year marks the 12th year of collaboration between the Asian Tour and Taifong. This partnership enriches Taiwan's international sporting calendar and provides local players with opportunities to compete with world-class professionals, playing a crucial role in nurturing emerging golf talent in Asia.

To provide Taiwanese players with a high-level international platform and increase their competitive experience and world ranking points, Chairman Lin Po-shi officially upgraded the Taifong ADT Open to an Asian Tour event in 2023. This year, the prize money was raised to US$500,000 for the first time. Additionally, a new three-year contract (until 2028) for the Taiwan Glass Taifong Open has been signed with the Asian Tour.

Furthermore, this year marks the first time the tournament has been moved from its traditional year-end slot to May. It is a highly anticipated event for golf enthusiasts and a crucial tournament for international players striving for their annual rankings.

Chairman of the tournament, President of Taiwan Glass Group, and Chairman of Taifong Golf Club, Lin Po-shi, stated at today's press conference that while the US$500,000 prize pool is not the highest in the season, the main purpose is to help Taiwanese players participate in more international events. He also mentioned that fairway maintenance and difficulty have been increased, with green speeds adjusted to 10 to meet international standards.

Asian Tour Commissioner and CEO Cho Minn Thant remarked that moving the competition to early May, combined with increased prize money and a gathering of international stars, promises an exciting tournament. He noted that there are six Asian Tour events in Taiwan this year, including three ADT and three Asian Tour events.

TPGA Chairman Chen Jung-hsing mentioned that the field has been strengthened due to the earlier schedule, with several top-ten players from the Asian Tour rankings attending. He expressed hope that Taiwanese players would keep the championship trophy at home.

The event is title-sponsored by Taiwan Glass Group and Taifong Golf Club, organized by the TPGA and the Asian Tour, and guided by the Ministry of Sport. 144 players from 27 countries, including 98 international players and 46 Taiwanese players, are competing.

Chairman Lin Po-shi has been a major promoter of golf in Taiwan since 2005. The tournament is named the "Taiwan Glass Taifong Open" to reflect both the club and the group's involvement, allowing international players to experience world-class facilities and Taiwanese multinational corporate resources. The clubhouse, "Siza Pavilion," was designed by renowned architect Alvaro Siza and inaugurated in 2020, blending sport with art.

The Thai contingent is formidable this year with 26 players, including Suteepat Prateeptienchai seeking his third title at Taifong. Taiwanese players are led by Lee Chieh-po, who won his first Asian Tour title in 2024. Other local contenders include Wang Wei-hsuan, Hung Chien-yao, and veteran Chan Shih-chang.

The course measures 7,255 yards. Fairways and greens are maintained to optimal conditions with green speeds reaching at least 10. The long fairways and thick rough will serve as a major test for the players.

A Pro-Am was held today (6th) with over 100 amateurs and 31 professionals. Pro Wang Wei-hsuan hit a hole-in-one on the 12th hole during the Pro-Am, receiving a prize of NT$10,000.

The first official round begins May 7. After two rounds, the top 65 players will advance. Special awards include hole-in-one prizes of NT$10,000 on several holes, a special NT$100,000 prize for the 15th hole, and a NT$50,000 course record award.

The tournament will be broadcast on Sportcast Golf 2, with highlights for the first two rounds and live coverage for the final two rounds starting at 11:30 AM on May 9 and 10. Admission is free for spectators, who must register at the Siza Pavilion for a pass. Safety regulations are in effect, and spectators must stay on cart paths.
