April 24, 2025
The second leg of the 2025 ThreeBond TPGA Challenge Tour, offering a total prize fund of NT$1 million, concluded today (April 24) at Ta Kang Shan Golf Course in Kaohsiung. Wang Sheng-hui surged on the back nine with two eagles, catching up to tie for the lead, then sealed victory with a par on the final hole—edging out two strong contenders, who both made bogey—to claim the title by one stroke. He carded a 4-under 68 for a two-round total of 136 (-8), earning the NT$150,000 winner’s prize, marking his second career Challenge Tour title. Hsieh Ting-wei and Lin Yuan-wei shot 70 and 71, respectively, finishing at 137 (-7) and sharing second place, each receiving NT$62,500.
The Both-well Group (Cheng Guan Yuan Driving Range) has sponsored this event for eight consecutive years, with the last three years under the Cheng Guan Yuan title.
This victory marks Wang Sheng-hui’s first win since his October 2022 victory at the Fuxing Challenge, when he competed under the name Wang You-wei. He expressed his joy at regaining the winner’s circle, saying it greatly boosted his confidence. He thanked his parents for their unconditional support, Kaohsiung Golf Course for his development, King Golf for sponsorship, and the Both-well Group for nominating him for this event.
Hsieh Tung-hung shot 70 for a two-round total of 139, finishing solo fourth.
Hsiāo Ho-yu, who struggled in Round 1 with a 76, bounced back impressively with a 66 today—the lowest score of the day—and received the NT$15,000 “Low Round of the Day” award, sponsored by Councilor Huang Ming-tsung. He finished tied for 10th at 142.
Amateur player Tang He-jun shot another 76 today, finishing at 152, earning the top amateur title and receiving bonus prizes: five sleeves of SRIXON Z-STAR XV balls sponsored by DUNLOP Taiwan, and a golf bag from Shang Chong International Co.
The NT$100,000 hole-in-one prizes provided by TZER LI ENTERPRISE CO. and Elite Industech Co. went unclaimed and were donated to the TPGA to support golf development programs.
This was the second event of the 2025 Challenge Tour season, co-hosted by Both-well Group, Taiwan PGA, and ThreeBond, with Ta Kang Shan Golf Course as co-organizer. Both-well Group has supported this event for eight consecutive years, and for the past three years it has been held under the Cheng Guan Yuan name.
In today’s final round, Wang Sheng-hui started in the final group, two strokes behind Lin Yuan-wei and one behind Hsieh Ting-wei. After the front nine, Lin and Hsieh were tied at 6-under overall, with Wang one shot back. However, he dropped two shots on holes 10 and 12, falling as many as four strokes behind. On the par-5 14th, while his opponents made birdies, Wang reached the green in two and sank a 12-foot eagle putt, cutting the gap to two. On the par-3 16th, he made birdie, and on the critical par-5 17th, he played a perfect approach from 147 yards with a pitching wedge to 1.5 feet, making another eagle. The three players were then tied at 8-under heading to the 18th.
On the final hole, all three reached the green in three strokes. Hsieh’s downhill chip ran 15 feet past, Lin left his ball 12 feet from the hole, and Wang stopped his at 4 feet. Only Wang made par with a single putt, while the other two missed and made bogey, giving Wang a dramatic one-shot victory.
A native of Kaohsiung Golf Course, Wang admitted he hadn’t expected to win. His performance on the front nine was lackluster, and he had shaky moments early on the back nine. As the deficit widened, he decided to relax and just play his best. The strategy paid off as he made two eagles and clinched the title with a clutch final hole.
Turning professional in 2021, Wang said the nearly three years since his first title had been difficult, with high expectations and inconsistent results. While his skills remained solid, he struggled mentally in tournaments. A breakthrough came during the final event of last year’s CHAU-SHI Series Peng-yi Open, where he steadied his game and earned Taiwan Tour seed status (finishing 50th overall in 2024).
Wang emphasized his disciplined training routine: three strength sessions per week, two days of short game practice, and daily practice at Cheng Guan Yuan Driving Range, followed by on-course training at Kaohsiung Golf Course. He also plays at CPC Golf Course on weekends. His 2025 goals are: one Taiwan Tour win, finishing in the top 30 on the money list, and averaging under-par scores in every tournament round.
This 36-hole event featured 91 professional players (including 2 Taiwan Tour players) and 5 amateurs, competing for the trophy and the NT$150,000 first prize.
Cheng Guan Yuan Driving Range provided free practice access for players and a buffet at the awards ceremony. Wu Ji Bakery and Wu Ji Foods sponsored guest gift sets, while Classic Development Chairman Cheng Yang-ching sponsored snacks for players during each round.
ThreeBond, a multinational company from Japan known for industrial adhesives, is in its 11th year as title sponsor of the TPGA Challenge Tour. The 2025 season will again feature nine events.
