Release Date: November 28, 2024
The 2024 ThreeBond TPGA Challenge Tour Final Stage , the T.C. Chen Elite Challenge
Tour, concluded today (November 28) at the Miramar Golf Country Club. Chen Wei-
sheng claimed his first professional victory by shooting a 4-under-par 68 in the final
round, finishing with a 3-under total of 141 over two rounds, edging out the
competition by one stroke to take home the TWD 270,000 champion’s prize.
Yeh Chia-yin shot 69, and Chen Chieh-sheng posted a 70, both finishing at 2-under-
par 142 to tie for second place, each earning TWD 120,000.
First-round leader Hsiao He-yu carded a 72 to finish fourth at 143, while Chan Ting-li
shot 72 to claim fifth place at 144. Chen Po-hao delivered the round of the day with a
67, finishing sixth at 145.
Su Ching-hung, the dominant player of this year’s Challenge Tour with four titles and
the confirmed 2024 Prize Leader, shot 73 to finish seventh at 146, earning TWD
45,000. His position at the top of the annual prize rankings remained unaffected.
Chen Wei-sheng described his first victory as surreal:
“It feels unreal to achieve a goal I’ve been working toward for so long. Even after the
award ceremony, I haven’t felt particularly excited—just relieved that I finally did it.”
Chen admitted to struggling with nerves in past tournaments when in contention,
often faltering under pressure in the final holes. This time, after reaching 2-under
through nine holes, he focused on staying present and not overthinking. Even on the
18th green, he avoided looking at the leaderboard. When he handed in his
scorecard, he braced for a potential playoff but was delighted to hear from Chen
Chieh-sheng that he had won outright.
Chen expressed gratitude to many supporters, including Yang Te Group Chairman
Hsu Yu-jui, who has encouraged him since his rookie days, and TPGA Chairman Chen
Rong-xing, who has guided him since junior golf through his transition to the
professional ranks. He also thanked the Peng Yi Golf Team, mentor Huang Jin-peng,
Hotel Hi in Chiayi, and his family, whose unwavering support he credited for his
success. He gave special thanks to his wife, whose encouragement kept him
grounded. He also expressed appreciation to Linkou and Xinfeng Golf Courses for
their support.
At 26 years old, Chen has been playing golf for 13 years, starting in elementary
school. He is currently ranked 59th on the Taiwan Tour prize rankings and
participated in this event as a special invitee recommended by former TPGA
Chairman Chen Tze-chung.
Chen recorded five birdies and one bogey today, hitting 12 fairways and 17 greens in
regulation with 32 putts. Notable highlights included a 17-foot birdie on the 9th hole
and a clutch 15-foot birdie on the 17th, which he considered pivotal to his victory.
On the 18th hole, his two-putt par from 50 feet sealed the win.
Chen looks forward to the remaining two Taiwan Tour events this year and aims to
achieve strong finishes. He has been working on improving his swing for more
consistent performance, with a strong suit in driving (300-yard average) and high
fairway accuracy, while continuing to refine his short game and putting under the
guidance of coach Zhao Xun-ting.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of ThreeBond’s title sponsorship of the TPGA
Challenge Tour. To commemorate the milestone and recognize the contributions of
former TPGA Chairman Chen Tze-chung, the company renamed the Final Stage to
the "T.C. Chen Elite Challenge Tour" and raised the prize fund from TWD 1 million to
TWD 1.5 million, with the winner’s prize increased to TWD 270,000.
ThreeBond Hong Kong President Katsuyuki Uematsu, Taiwan Branch Manager
Hirokazu Taichi, and Challenge Tour Executive Director Chen Tze-chung attended the
awards ceremony.
This no-cut, two-round, 36-hole finale featured 40 players, including the top 34 in
the Challenge Tour’s latest prize rankings, two Taiwan Tour seed players, and
invitees from the organizers and sponsors.
The tournament is sponsored by ThreeBond, organized by the Taiwan Professional
Golf Association, and co-organized by the Miramar Golf Country Club.
