ThreeBond Din Yue Challenge Tour
Round 2
2024/8/16
The 2024 ThreeBond TPGA Challenge Tour's fifth event, the Din Yue Challenge Tour, concluded its final round today (16th) at the CCK Golf Club in Taichung. Su Ching Hung delivered a score of 70, securing the championship with a total of 133 strokes over two rounds, 11 under par. He claimed the championship trophy and a prize of NT$150,000, becoming the first player in the ten-year history of the ThreeBond-sponsored event to achieve three consecutive victories.
At the award ceremony, Su Ching Hung mentioned that he realized from the TPGA official website last night that no one had ever won three consecutive titles. He admitted feeling very nervous at the time, but now that he has successfully won the championship, he feels relieved. He expressed his gratitude to his family, Ta Kang Shan Golf Course, and Hsin Yi Golf Club for their long-term support and vowed to repay them with even better results in the future. He also thanked Coach TZE-CHUNG CHEN for advocating for the continuous ten-year hosting of the ThreeBond Challenge Tour for new professional players, adding that he is thrilled to have achieved this record.
The 22-year-old rookie, Su Ching Hung, has set a record by winning three consecutive tournaments at the Yang Te Challenge Tour Ta Kang Shan Golf Course, Yang Te Challenge Tour Hsin Feng Golf Course, and Din Yue Challenge Tour. Currently leading the ThreeBond Challenge Tour's annual prize rankings, Su Ching Hung announced that he will compete in the next TPGA Challenge Tour at Suncity Golf & Country Club, aiming to challenge himself for a fourth consecutive victory.
Su Ching Hung started today's round with a four-stroke lead. He shared that he wasn’t entirely in form initially but maintained his principle of focusing on each shot. The key to his victory was sinking a 75-foot eagle putt on the 13th hole and an 18-foot birdie on the 14th. He rated his performance today as 70 out of 100, while yesterday’s score of 63 was an A+++.
Tseng Tzu-Hsuan delivered the lowest score of his career today with a 64, nine birdies, and one bogey, finishing in second place with a total of 135 strokes, 9 under par, winning NT$75,000. This marks his third runner-up finish in his professional career. He mentioned that after his ninth birdie on the 15th hole, he briefly overtook Su Ching Hung, although he was unaware of his lead due to the absence of live scoring updates on-site. He only knew that he was striking the ball smoothly, especially with excellent control over his putting, needing just 25 putts.
HUANG HSIANG-HAO also posted a score of 70 today, finishing third with a total of 137 strokes, 7 under par. Chiu Han Ting scored 70, finishing fourth with a total of 140 strokes. Su Yen Wei posted a score of 67 today, and along with Fang Chuan Wei (69 strokes), they tied for fifth place with a total of 141 strokes. PENG HUNG-CHING, Lin Wei-Jie, and Ku Po Yun all tied for seventh place with a total of 142 strokes, while WANG TZU-MING, Chen Po-Jui, and HSU CHIH-KAI tied for 10th place with 143 strokes.
The best amateur performance came from 22-year-old Wen Hsin from Hualien Golf Club, who scored 74 today, finishing with a total of 144 strokes. He was awarded five dozen SRIXON Z-STAR XV golf balls, sponsored by DUNLOP International, and a golf bag sponsored by SHANG CHONG INTERNATIONAL CO., LTD. This was Wen Hsin’s first time competing in the Challenge Tour and marked his first amateur championship in a professional tournament. Interestingly, Wen Hsin and the tournament's professional champion, Su Ching Hung, are classmates from the same university, making this dual victory a noteworthy achievement.
The weather in Taichung today was sunny and pleasant, allowing all players to complete the final round smoothly by early afternoon. The award ceremony was then held in the second-floor restaurant of the clubhouse, with guests including HSIN FU DEVELOPMENT INTERNATIONAL CO., LTD. representative Jiang Ze-Sheng, Din Yue Restaurant Deputy General Manager Chen Ya-Wen, CCK Golf Club Deputy General Manager Zhang Zhi-Zhong, ThreeBond Challenge Tour CEO TZE-CHUNG CHEN, TPGA Chairman Chen Jung-Hsin, and Chief Referee Charles Kuo.
The total prize for this tournament was NT$1 million, with the event sponsored by ThreeBond, organized by Din Yue Restaurant, and hosted by TPGA with assistance from CCK Golf Club. The competition was non-elimination, with the top 40 players (including ties) after two rounds receiving prize money.
After co-hosting the event last year with Recoco Corporation Ltd., Din Yue Restaurant solely sponsored and organized this year's tournament. Din Yue Restaurant's CEO, Wang Ching-Rui, expressed his hope during the players' welcome night that the event will be upgraded from a Challenge Tour to a Taiwan Tour next year, further advancing Taiwanese golfers onto the international stage.
The Taiwan Tour was officially recognized by the OWGR in July of this year and will become an official world-ranking tour starting January 5, 2025.
Dinyue Restaurant, led by former Taipei World Trade Club executive chef Lai Yuanhui and the chef team from the alliance with Ji Pin Seafood, opened in July 2020. The high-end Cantonese restaurant, located in Taichung, was built with an investment of NT$500 million and is renowned for its luxurious decor. The restaurant’s first floor features 18 private dining rooms, inspired by the 18 holes of a golf course. The second floor houses the Starlight Banquet Hall, which can accommodate 36 tables and boasts Taiwan's largest 673-inch P1.5 LED screen with high-end surround sound, ideal for weddings or major brand events.
The co-hosting CCK Golf Course is a historic venue with 50 years of history. The course is lined with towering old pine trees, and players often experience the thrill of low-flying commercial and military aircraft overhead. Under the leadership of General Manager Hong Guangming, the course has been well-maintained, and the lush rough, bolstered by abundant rainfall in central Taiwan this year, provides a challenging 7,140-yard course for the competition.
ThreeBond, the annual title sponsor of the TPGA CHALLENGE TOUR, is a multinational corporation specializing in manufacturing adhesives. This is the 10th consecutive year they have sponsored the TPGA CHALLENGE TOUR, which will feature 9 events this year.
Taiwan Fu Hsing Industrial Co., Ltd. Chairman Lin Ruizhang has also added bonuses for the top three players in the ThreeBond Challenge Tour’s annual prize rankings, awarding NT$500,000, NT$300,000, and NT$200,000 respectively.
