Lin Y-Y (林義淵) came from two shots behind to lift the title at the fifth annual ThreeBond “Both-Well Cheng-Guan-Yuan Driving Range” Challenger. The home course player from Hsin Yi Golf Club put up a flawless, bogey-free performance of a 6-under 66 to beat Chen P-H (陳伯豪) by two shots. This is his first win on the ThreeBond Challenger Tour.
This week at the Hsin Yi Golf Club is the second leg of the TPGA’s 2023 ThreeBond Challenge Tour, with 88 TPGA pros and 8 amateur players in the field. There will be a total of nine ThreeBond Challengers on the 2023 calendar, which are played in a 2-day, 36-hole format.
Lin extended his brilliant stream of form from yesterday, in which saw him make six birdies and one eagle, and completed the final round with another six birdies and zero bogey.
“It was anybody’s game honestly. The lead was changing hands after almost every hole. I did not quite pay attention to the leaderboard until probably on the 17th,” Lin said, who had established a 2-shot cushion going onto the 18th tee. “I train here at Hsin Yi so I think I’m pretty confident about how to attack this course, and the rest is all about execution. I’m happy that I managed to do well.” The home course player was doused in water on the green by thrilled friends and fellow players.
The key moment for Lin today was when he solved a potential crisis on the par-5 8th hole where he needed four shots to find the green. Fortunately, Lin managed well to finish the downhill 6-footer and left with a par to keep his lead.
The 22-year-old ended the 2022 TPGA Tour in no.58 on the money leaderboard. He recently took a win in the Technology Cup series in April, which was a confidence-booster for Lin, as he said, to help me clinch a first TPGA Tour victory this week.
Chen P-H (陳伯豪), who started the round tied with Lin, made seven birdies, one bogey, and one double-bogey to register a final-round 68. This helped him to secure a solo second finish. Tsai Y-T (蔡雨達) also carded a 68 with six birdies and two bogeys, closing the week in solo third.
Ban Shotaro, winner in the first leg of the ThreeBond Challenge Tour this past week, finished in a tie for fourth with Lee S-J (李尚融) after a final-round 69. First-round leader Fang C-W (方傳崴) carded a 73 on Thursday, finishing in a tie for sixth.
Lee R-S (李睿紳) captured the low-amateur title this week with a 74-67 141. He grabbed seven birdie opportunities and only committed two bogeys today to wrap it up in equal ninth on the final leaderboard.
This is the fifth year in a row the Both-Well Group becomes the event sponsor, which holds the ownership of the Cheng-Guan-Yuan Golf Driving Range in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.
ThreeBond is a manufacturer and one of the international leaders in industrial adhesives, sealants and coatings. The Japan-based company has been collaborating with Taiwanese golf legend and former TPGA chairman T-C Chen (陳志忠), who was the very first player from Taiwan to ever win on the PGA Tour at the 1987 Los Angeles Open, for more than 40 years. The TPGA ThreeBond Challenge Tour is now in its ninth season, serving as the secondary pro circuit to the main TPGA Tour.
